Receiving the HDF scholarship meant so much to me because I knew I had a community supporting me in my goals and dreams. I loved that there was an organization that recognized and celebrated Latino students going to college.
As an HDF scholar I did not have to worry about things like paying for books or using loan money to pay for a class because I had the scholarship. As a first-generation college student paying for college on her own, worrying about money can be stressful. The scholarship took away some of that stress so I could focus.
My advice to other HDF scholars: Always remember that you’re talented, you deserve to be in college, you deserve to be successful. You bring more than enough to the table. Celebrate who you are and never give up on your dreams.
