Meet Alejandra Pérez

Alejandra currently serves as HDF’s Director of Scholarship Program. Her career in higher education has been centered in academic advising and retention services at two- and four-year institutions. Having navigated the higher education system as a first-generation, undocumented student, with ADA accommodations, she has a deep understanding of the barriers our community faces pursuing their academic goals and more importantly, how to overcome these challenges.

Alex takes pride in having started her academic journey at a community college, then transferring to complete her bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and later earning a master's degree in Educational Administration. Outside of HDF, Alex’s favorite things to do are spending time with family, friends, travelling with her husband and dog, and watching hummingbirds visit her garden. She also volunteers serving as a Commissioner for the Board of Parks and Recreation in Kansas City, Missouri, focusing her efforts on youth access to community resources and civic engagement.
